Older adults need better yoga teachers
Older adults are the fastest-growing group of yoga students in the world. Already today, one in three people at yoga classes is 50+. And this number is only growing because doctors and other health care providers are starting to realize that yoga has tremendous benefits for physical and mental health, especially for seniors.
Yoga teachers say that yoga is for everyone. But then they teach as if every student in class is a 25-year-old gymnast!
Unfortunately, 99% of yoga teachers don't know how to create safe and engaging classes for older adults who typically are less mobile, have one or several chronic health conditions, and simply need a different yoga practice than younger students.
The Movement Wisdom Seniors Chair Yoga Specialist certification program changes that for you. This comprehensive 40-hour Yoga Alliance-accredited training turns you into the skillful and knowledgeable yoga teacher that the older adults in your area want, need, and deserve.
As a graduate of this course, you'll stand out from the crowd of yoga teachers. You'll be able to fill new classes, attract well-paying private clients, and work in new settings.
And in case you're wondering: No. Teaching yoga to older adults is not boring at all. And it does not mean that you have to change everything for everyone.
I hope to see you in the training. The world needs more capable teachers for seniors!

FAQ
Questions? Answers.
Who is a good fit?
This program is for yoga teachers who want to specialize in working with older adults: 200-Hour YTT grads, healthcare professionals (PTs, nurses, OTs) working with seniors, and teachers already leading classes in senior living or rehab settings. It is also suitable for older adults looking to build a safe, well-informed yoga practice (with or without prior YTT experience).
Is this course recognized by yoga studios?
Yes. It's Yoga Alliance certified, and the hours can be registered as continuing education. It gives you a credential specifically for teaching older adults — a population most 200-hour trainings barely touch.
Do I need to take the 200-Hour YTT first?
No. You can complete the Seniors Yoga Specialization independent of your 200-Hour YTT. (Also note that this 40-hour training is not a foundational yoga teacher training.)
Can I start anytime?
Yes. It's a self-paced course. You'll set your own schedule, study without time pressure, and you can complete the final exam whenever you're ready.
What happens after I join?
You get immediate access to our course- and community platform and you can start right away.
Who is the lead teacher?
You'll study with Jess Rose, our founder. Jess is an E-RYT500 with more than 15 years of industry experience. Jess is known for her unique ability to merge modern movement science and ancient yogic wisdom into addictive asana classes. More than one million students from around the world practice with Jess regularly.
What does the curriculum cover?
The 40 hours cover 30 modules across three areas. Yogic Practices: chair yoga, gentle flow, gentle hatha, Silver Yin, Silver Restorative, meditation, breathwork, Yoga Nidra and wall yoga. Medical Conditions: osteoporosis, heart disease, stroke, arthritis, joint replacement, COPD, cancer, chronic pain and inflammaging. Teaching Skills: movement principles, safe transitions, sequencing, language and cues, adjusting for seniors, choosing the right style, get seniorized, bridging the gap, brain waves, meaning, teaching advanced seniors and business basics. You also get the Seniors Yoga Pose Encyclopedia, a resource library, student interviews, and a graduation sequence submission reviewed by your lead trainer.
What are the requirements to complete the course?
Each module ends with a short quiz to help you consolidate what you learned, not a pass/fail exam. Complete all the modules and you're certified as a Seniors Yoga Specialist, with the option to register your continuing education hours with Yoga Alliance.
Can I really learn to teach yoga online?
Yes, absolutely. Everything that matters for becoming a standout Seniors yoga teacher can be learned online. Facts and figures, empathy, step-by-step pose workshops, subtle-body practices, teaching skills etc. Nothing requires in-person presence. On the contrary, having lifetime access and unlimited flexibility are huge advantages for you over in-person education.
What kind of support do I receive after graduation?
After graduation, you'll retain lifetime access to all course materials, allowing you to revisit any content as needed. You'll also continue to have access to our graduate community, where you can connect with fellow teachers, share resources, and find ongoing support. Plus, you'll have continued access to all community calls with your lead trainer Jess Rose.
How can I get a refund?
You have 30 days to try the program. If you want to drop out, just email help@movementwisdomyoga.com. No questions asked. Please note that physical products (like printed manuals) are non-refundable since they're produced on demand. The Ultimate Quality Guarantee is separate. You can claim it for one year after graduation. To claim, name the training you are comparing against and explain concretely where it goes further than ours; the teacher you compare with must have finished their first 200-hour training within the last 24 months. Any upgrades you have used and any bonus physical products are deducted from a refund.
